kooo architects sets Ningshan LuZhai cottages in Yuwan Village

Ningshan LuZhai Cottages, situated at the foot of a small mountain within Yuwan Village in Ankang, China, is a hotel project developed by kooo architects in multiple phases. The site boasts a rich natural environment, surrounded by retaining walls made of rubble on the terraced slopes, offering an impressive panoramic view of rice fields. The project is designed to blend seamlessly with the landscape and minimize its impact on the ecosystem, respecting the distinctive regional character.

To achieve minimal disruption to the environment, the hotel utilizes locally available building materials and incorporates traditional construction methods. The L-shaped two-story building, designed to overlook the rice paddies, aligns its ground floor with the elevation of the fields, ensuring a level sightline. Local stone is employed for the external walls, connecting harmoniously with existing retaining walls in the village, while the terrace and roof structure feature solid wood beams, mirroring the local architectural style.

‘garden-like’ entrances pop up between the continuous Cottages

The planning introduces an in-between space among guest rooms, creating private ‘garden-like’ entrances that break down the continuous volume of the building. kooo architects team‘s approach harmonizes the design with the scale of neighboring houses, promoting visual cohesion within the village. The first floor, enclosed by stone walls, houses private functions like bedrooms, offering guests both comfort and panoramic field views. The phased development aligns with the surrounding village, ensuring a considerate integration with the local environment.
