pedrali furnishes newly opened istanbul modern

Pedrali contributes to the appreciation, learning, and discourse of creative beauty at the Istanbul Modern. Despite only being completed in May 2023, the first museum of modern and contemporary art in the Turkish city has already earned recognition as a landmark for international art. The design, created by RPBW (Renzo Piano Building Workshop), harmoniously captures the beauty of its surrounding, the architecture itself, and the art within – all complemented by products crafted by the equally forward-thinking Italian furniture manufacturer.

Situated along the Karakoy Waterfront, one of the historic districts of the city, Istanbul Modern opened its doors in May 2023 after a rejuvenation effort by RPDW in collaboration with Arup. A former government warehouse underwent a transformative process to unite the old and new, balancing the aesthetics of the surrounding landscape and bridging the gap between land and sea. The façade, composed of glass and metal, presents a light yet elegant form for onlookers.

Inside, the museum encompasses an area of 10,500 sqm spread across five levels. Even with all this room, the architecture’s expansive floor-to-ceiling glass windows immerse visitors in a truly borderless space. In addition to numerous exhibition halls for temporary art and photography displays, the museum houses dedicated rooms for film screenings, conferences, education programs, a library, and a restaurant – all designed with versatility and hospitality in mind.

pedrali snow junior chair by odo fioravanti

The Pedrali products selected for furnishing reflect the same principles as the spaces they inhabit. The Snow Junior, brilliant in its engaging yellow hue, finds its place in a room dedicated to educational workshops for children. Designed by Odo Fioravanti, its playful shape is also adaptable to be stacked. Its solid yet light structure is realized with polypropylene charged with glass fibers, which is injection molded using gas air molding technology.

pedrali nolita and tribeca by CMP design

On the top floor, visitors can enjoy a unique panoramic view of the city and its waterfront thanks to a 60 sqm terrace. It appears as if a floating platform that hovers above the river. Both designed by CMP Design, the Pedrali Nolita and Tribeca products enriches this indulgent setting for guests.

The Nolita, a family of outdoor seats recalling founder Mario Pedrali’s first metal garden chairs from 1963, features a steel tube structure that presents a linear form, appearing both light and transparent yet delivering great strength. The Tribeca also revives the sixties through a reinterpretation of classic patio chairs, made of steel and woven material. Vertically-woven plastic cords form the seat and backrest to the metal frame. The combination of the two collections mirrors the colors of the city’s sky, gently fluctuating from shades of blue to white.

pedrali fluxo coffee tables by luca casini

Completing the unique terrace, the Fluxo coffee tables by Luca Casini shift in sizes from low coffee tables to a standing-height option. The form of the tables is defined by primary geometric shapes, starting from a stem-like base and rising up a central column to the circular top surface. Clean and minimalist lines ensure the functional furniture supports rather than distracts from the architecture, art, and setting.
